ARTIST STATEMENT

I have been creating ceramic art since the year 2000. I chose this medium because it allows me to express and evoke emotion through my art. My goal is for the elements of each piece to flow together to create a sculptural and functional vessel. I aspire to create a sense of movement and personality in all of my work.

The design choices that I make are determined by the character that I want the final work to have and are based strongly on design and balance.

Every piece of work I create begins with a piece of clay. It is either thrown on a potter’s wheel, hand built, or a combination of these. The majority of my work is then fired to cone 6 in an electric kiln.

I am currently exploring the limits of design with utilitarian forms. In doing this, I challenge the notion that beauty does not have to be sacrificed for the sake of function.
